Facts about Belize!
Belize is recognized for its beauty in diversity, climate and natural attractions. Belize is blessed with many natural wonders in every corner of it's borders. Belize also lays claim to hundreds of ancient Maya temples, large tracts of intact tropical rain forest, and the longest barrier reef in the western hemisphere.
Belize is the home of various interesting and diversified ethnicity including Garifuna, Maya, Creole, Mestizo, East Indian, and German Mennonites. Belize's beauty lies in its unique diversity, surrounding the beauty of the Caribbean Sea, from the barrier reef, to the tropical forests, with numerous Mayan temples, tropical islands, jungle and underground rivers, caves systems, cane farms, banana plantations, groves of sweet smelling oranges and grapefruits, jaguars, manatees, dolphins, toucans, Coatimundis, mahogany, hibiscus, Xate, bonefish, deer and tapirs.
Belize has a tropical climate with pronounced wet and dry seasons. The dry season is shorter in the south, normally only lasting from February to April. A shorter, less rainy period, known locally as the "little dry," usually occurs in late July or August, after the initial onset of the rainy season. The climate in Belize is subtropical with brisk prevailing wind from the Caribbean Sea and an annual mean temperature of 79 degrees Fahrenheit. Summer high temperatures usually never exceed 96 degrees Fahrenheit while winter lows are seldom below 60 degrees Fahrenheit, even at night.
Getting to and around Belize:
The Philip Goldson International Airport, 17 km northwest of the city at Ladyville in the Northern Highway, is just 2 hours away from Miami, Houston and New Orleans with service to the Belize from various international airlines. From the airport a taxi or a bus will carry you the roughly 10 miles into Belize City from where you can find a variety of transportation options to network you anywhere in the country. Taxis are identified by green license plates. There are boats to the cayes that leave from the Marine Terminal on the north side of Belize City's Swing Bridge.
If you preferred to travel by public transportation, there are several bus companies that offer service to points all over the country. There are also two main local airlines with offices Belize City that travels all over the country to various villages and towns. The Municipal Airport can be found on the seafront a few kilometers north of the city center.
